CEDAR BLUFF PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

NOVEMBER 2, 2009 AT 5:00 P.M.

 

The Cedar Bluff Planning Commission met in regular session in the Council Room at Town Hall, 3420 Spring Street, Cedar Bluff, Alabama, Monday, November 2, 2009 at 5:00 p.m., pursuant to notice duly posted as prescribed by law. Chairman Herb Sherwin presided and called the meeting to order.  Members in attendance were as follows:

Item No. 1:                                                     

 

Call to Order

 

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Herb Sherwin.

 

Item No. 2:                                                     

 

Approve minutes of the September 8, 2009 meeting

 

A motion was made by Harlan Starr, seconded by Billie Harris, that the minutes of September 8, 2009 be approved.  Motion carried (5-0).

 

            At this time Secretary DeLana Carson requested to discuss item 4 because Zoning Official Jimmy Wallace had another meeting to attend after this one.

 

Item No. 4:                                                     

 

Discuss current sign ordinance.         

                                               

            Chairman Sherwin advised he had received information from East Alabama Planning Commission on sign ordinances and both Piedmont and Wedowie has the same sign ordinance as Cedar Bluff.

 

            Council Member Harp advised that a representative from EAPC had come to Cedar Bluff to help with the sign ordinance.

 

            After discussion it was the consensus of the Commission that the ordinance was a uniform ordinance that EAPC used for cities and towns throughout Alabama.

 

            Zoning Official Jimmy Wallace produced numerous pictures of signs throughout the town and sited several sections of the sign code that are violations according to the current sign ordinance.

 

            Member Harlan Starr advised that something needed to be done to correct the ordinance.  Council Member Harp suggested work sessions for Section 7 of the Zoning Ordinance which is the sign ordinance.

Item No. 3:                                                     

 

Discuss regulations for condition and age of manufactured homes.

 

Chairman Herb Sherwin advised this item had been referred back to the Planning Commission for condition and age requirements.

 

A discussion ensued regarding areas for mobile homes decreasing with less R-2 areas.

The Commission discussed appointing a Council person or designee to perform a visual inspection of any mobile home moved into the R-2 zoning district.

Chairman Sherwin took an action item to research the procedures on condemning property and research date law requirements for mobile homes.

Chairman Sherwin also advised he would check with Cherokee Electric on mobile home hook-ups.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, a motion was made by Harlan Starr, seconded by Leatha Harp, that the meeting be adjourned at 6:17 p.m..  Motion carried (5-0).
